The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) announced the resumption of Operation 1027, following clashes with military junta forces in the northern Shan State townships of Mogok, Kyaukme, and Naungcho, starting on June 25.
Intense fighting has erupted between TNLA’s Brigade 2 and junta forces around Kyaukkyan village in Naungcho Township, Ngainchaung Hill in Kyaukme Township, and Pansape village in Mogok Township, with reports of aerial attacks by the junta.
The artillery shelling has resulted in three civilian casualties in Kyaukme, local sources confirmed.
As a result of the ongoing conflict, streets in the affected towns are deserted, and several inter-town roads have been blocked by both sides, according to locals.
In addition to TNLA, reports suggest that the Arakan Army (AA), Kokang Army (MNDAA), and Mandalay People’s Defense Forces are also involved in the current phase of Operation 1027, although no official confirmation has been made.
Operation 1027 initially began on October 27, 2023, in northern Shan State, leading to a ceasefire agreement brokered by China on January 12, 2024.
However, the ceasefire has collapsed, with renewed heavy fighting between the junta and TNLA, indicating a complete breakdown of the agreement, according to military analysts.
The TNLA claims that despite signing the ceasefire agreement, the junta has repeatedly violated the terms.
