Train Trips Canceled After Railway Section Mined in Thaton Township

-

Yangon-Mawlamyine train trips were temporarily canceled following a mine attack on the railway near Moe Kaung village, Thaton township, Mon State.

On March 18, around 7:00 a.m., a mine detonated between Theinseik Station and Donwun Station, resulting in the No. 686 downwind stone train incident.

As a consequence of the mine attack, approximately 20 feet of railway track were damaged, causing 5 coaches to overturn and 2 to derail.

Mawlamyine Station has announced the temporary cancellation of the No. 82 downwind Mawlamyine-Yangon train trip and the No. 81 upwind Yangon-Mawlamyine train trip, departing from Yangon Station starting March 19, following the demining of the railway section.

Due to the temporary cancellation of train journeys, refunds for upper-class and ordinary tickets will be available at the Mawlamyine Station ticket office from 6:00 am on the same day.

Currently, Myanmar Railways is repairing the railway section affected by the mine attack. Additionally, Mawlamyine Station has announced that it will provide further information regarding the resumption of train services once repairs are completed.

The Yangon-Mawlamyine railway section passing through Paung township, Thaton township, Bilin township, and Kyaikto township is frequently targeted by mine explosions.
