Independent Mon News Agency, 16 February 2024

On the morning of February 14th, it was announced in both Mon and Burmese languages, that some top leaders of the New Mon State Party, who did not accept the decision of the 11th party conference, will leave the party and lead an attack on the military junta.

According to the Deputy Leader of the New Mon State Party (Anti-military Dictatorship) force (1) Nai Banyar Lae, a discussion took place at the conference to stop meeting with the leadership of the military junta. However, party members decided to stand by the Bilateral ceasefire agreement, and fight the dictatorship on their own.

He said, “Nationwide peace can only be attained through comprehensive political dialogue. Currently, bilateral discussions have ceased, leaving us with the necessity to uphold a cordial ceasefire and engage with one another. I doubt we can achieve peace under these circumstances. Consequently, party leaders and army generals have convened to initiate a revolution and devise a new strategy.”

In addition, they will fight together with ethnic resistance organizations and spring revolution forces that are fighting against the military junta to achieve full national equality and self-determination.

“When it comes to fighting the main military dictator, our organization cannot fight alone. We plan to connect with the revolutionary forces in the vicinity and the revolutionary forces in the country and cooperate politically or militarily,” he said.

Nai Banyar Lae added that fighting in the Mon region may increase, and that the safety of the Mon people will be planned for.

According to the statement, the revolution against the coup will involve participation from New Mon State Party General Secretary Nai Zaya, Deputy Chief of Staff General Salon Htaw, along with other party leaders, members, generals, military comrades, and like-minded patriots who share their beliefs and positions.

The Anti-Military Forces of the New Mon State Party has called upon the entire Mon community, including Mon organizations domestically and internationally, as well as Mon monks and youth, to lend their strength and moral support in the fight to dismantle the military dictatorship.
