332 Women Killed in Six Months of Air and Ground Attacks

-

At least 332 women were killed across Myanmar between January and June 2026 due to air and ground attacks by the military junta, the Burmese Women’s Union (BWU) reported on July 10.

The military junta, while attempting to present itself as a legitimate government, has continued carrying out acts of violence including airstrikes, mass killings, and torture against civilians.

Among the women killed, 58 were under 18 years old, 10 were pregnant, and one had a disability, according to the report. Another 306 women were injured.

Airstrikes caused the highest number of deaths, followed by deaths from artillery shelling, landmines, gunfire, arson, and conflict-related sexual violence.

According to BWU data, the deaths included 102 in Sagaing Region, 47 in Bago Region, 41 in Rakhine State, 11 in Mon State, 17 in Karen State, and 15 in Tanintharyi Region, along with cases in other states and regions, totaling 332.

BWU urged ASEAN and the international community to take urgent action to end the military junta’s continued impunity and to demand an immediate stop to human rights violations.

The group also called for an immediate halt to investment and financial support that allows money to flow to the junta as though it were a legitimate government, and urged the imposition of sanctions to block the junta’s access to weapons, ammunition, and aviation fuel, in order to pressure it to stop attacks on civilians.
