Deputy Battalion Commander of Military Junta Shot and Killed in Three Pagoda Pass Township

-

On the morning of November 23, in Kyain-seikgyi township, Three Pagoda Pass township, which is located along the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State, a deputy battalion commander with the military junta was shot and killed.

Residents reported that Commander Aye Chan was at a beauty salon in Ward 1, when gunmen opened fire at approximately 6:00 a.m.

A resident stated that the 37-year-old Deputy Battalion Commander died on the spot.

“He was shot while in the beauty salon. That’s where the incident occurred. I’m not sure which group was responsible. At the time of the shooting, it was just before 6 o’clock, so no one was out yet,” said the resident.

The Independent Mon News Agency has been unable to independently confirm who is responsible or motives.

Last August, an unidentified armed group fired approximately 10 rounds using small arms at a border guard officer in Three Pagoda Pass township.

Township residents report that various forces are present in the area, including military junta forces, the Karen National Union (KNU), Karen Border Guard Force (BGF), Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), and other Karen ethnic armed groups. Additionally, the New Mon State Party (NMSP) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF), are active in the area.

Since the coup, there has been frequent targeting and shootings of military junta forces, informants, administrators, and political party members within the Township.
