-

According to local residents, heavy fighting continues in Chaunghnitkhwa village, Kyaikmaraw township, Mon State, and thousands of residents are trapped in their village.

On November 10, around 4:00 a.m., the police station and bridge gate were attacked by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the Joint People’s Defense Forces.

According to locals, the fighting persisted until November 12. During the conflict, the junta launched airstrikes and mortar shells from their base in Mudon township.

According to residents, people are hiding in their homes. The on-going gunfire is making it dangerous to attempt to flee.

“The fighting continued for two days, until November 12. I heard gunshots. It’s not safe to leave the village because of the ongoing conflict, so people are hiding in their houses,” said a resident of Chaunghnitkhwa village.

At least one local man was injured by a bullet, and his house was set on fire and damaged, according to local residents.

Residents are advised to avoid using the Mudon-Chaunghnitkhwa-Kyarinnseikkyi roadway and the Mudon-Chaunghnitkhwa-Tagundaing roadway.

The village police station and the bridge gate are frequently attacked by the Joint People’s Defense Forces, because of the presence of junta forces .
