A CDM Midwife in Mawlamyine Arrested and Charged Under Section 505 (a)

A CDM midwife in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, has been arrested, and a case under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code has been opened, according to sources close to the security forces.

A CDM midwife Daw Khin Khin Wai was arrested by the military junta on November 2 for allegedly posting on a social networking site about the killing of the head of Ye Township’s Fisheries Department.

After that, a case was opened against Daw Khin Khin Wai, a CDM midwife, under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code.

Daw Khin Khin Wai, a midwife who worked at the rural health center in Barbukone village, Kyaikmaraw Township, was also a member of the civil disobedience movement (CDM) following the military coup.

On October 18, U Zaw Naing Lin, the head of Ye Township’s Fisheries Department, was fatally shot by the Ye Blue group at a tea shop in Yan Kyi Aung Ward, Ye Township.

According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), nearly 800 civilians have been arrested in Mon State since the military coup began.
