Retired Captain Fatally Shot in Thaton Township

On October 3rd, a retired military junta captain was shot dead in Kyarban village, Thaton Township, Mon State.

U Win Naung,  54-years of age, was  from Kyarban village. He  was inside a shop he operated at his home when assailants on a motorcycle arrived and shot him.

U Win Naung died instantly from gunshot wounds to his head.

A resident said “U Win Naung, a retired army captain, was killed in his own home.”

The killing appears to be the work of Thaton Township Defense Forces.  They announced that U Win Naung was killed because he was collecting information and recruiting individuals for the military junta.

Independent Mon News Agency has not been able to independently confirm the statement.

In Thaton township, military junta troops frequently shoot and kill individuals who have ties to the military junta or are accused of providing information to them.
