Military Junta Arrests 8 Individuals After Former People’s Army Member Shot

-

According to residents, 8 local people were arrested by the military junta after a former member of the People’s army was shot in Yinnyein (South) village, Paung township, Mon state.

In the morning of September 13,  U Kyar Kyi, a former member of the People’s army from Yinnyein (South) village, was shot. Later that evening,  military junta soldiers  entered the village in civilian clothes and arrested 8 residents.

“Those arrested were only men. Family members are investigating where they were taken,” said one resident.

Their whereabouts remain unknown and family members are worried about their welfare.

The Military junta claims they arrested individuals connected to the shooting, but locals say they are just ordinary civilians and have nothing to do with the shooting.

In the first week of September last year, following the shooting of a border policeman from the Paung Township police station, the military junta arrested at least 10 local people, including a woman, from Oketadar village in Paung township, and they remain in custody to this day.
