-

According to residents, houses in Letku village, Palaw township, Tanintharyi Region were burned down by the military junta.

On September 15th at 4:00 p.m., the military junta destroyed houses around the Yetngae monastery. The following day, at 6:30 a.m., they again burnt down more houses around the monastery, resulting in the destruction of a total of 12 houses, according to a local.

“As far as I know, there are many large houses in that area. Most of them are two-story houses with wooden structures on top of brick,” said a local man.

The military junta also arrested over 100 villagers, releasing them on September 16, reported local residents.

The military junta also arrested some civilians from Hmawkyaung village, which is adjacent to Letku village.

The residents of Letku and Hmawkyaung villages had to flee for safety as the military junta’s column entered.  Gunfire continued until September 17th.

The People’s Defense Forces operate in the region and engage in daily exchanges of gunfire with the military junta.
