Border Police member from Zin Kyaik Police Station Fatally Shot

On the evening of August 12, a border police officer stationed at the Zin Kyaik area police station was fatally shot along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway in Pankone village, Paung Township, Mon State. 

According to the local residents, on August 12, around 4:00 p.m.,Tun Naing Linn, a police officer stationed at the Zing Kyuk area police station, was riding a motorcycle from Pankone village to Katon village when he was shot from behind by unidentified gunmen and he died on the spot.

“The policeman was en route from Pankone village to Katon village when he was shot. I don’t know who fired the shots. I heard maybe four, five, or six gunshots,” said a resident.

According to sources familiar with the security forces, Tun Naing Linn, held the position of warden for Zin Kyaik Township, overseeing both Pankone and Katon villages.

The identity of the individual who shot and killed Policeman Tun Naing Lin, as well as the reason for the shooting, has not yet been independently confirmed.

Last July 22, Border Police Officer Soe Zaw Aung, and a civilian were shot and killed while seated in a restaurant along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway in Oak Tadar village, Paung Township.

After December 10, 2022, a total of four policemen, a village Chief, and three civilians were shot dead along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway between Paung Township and Zin Kyaik Township in Mon State, according to local residents.
