In the morning of June 7th, the State Administrative Council’s military fired an artillery shell at Ywa Tan Shay village, Kawkareik Township, in Karen State. The shell exploded killing a child and injuring two family members.
12-year-old Saw Kyaw Than Aung, one of the three members of the family in the house, died, and her 43-year-old mother and her 4-year-old sister were each injured.
The artillery attack originated in Hlaing Wa Gone near Kok Krait town.
According to the local residents, the military has been continuously bombarding the southern area of Kawkareik with heavy weapons.
“There is no fight (resistance forces) here…. Yet they shot at villages with heavy weapons. This kind of shooting into villages with heavy weapons is done continuously. There are people who have been hit and killed,” said a Kawkareik resident.
On June 6, SAC’s air force bombarded San Phalar village, in Kawkareik township.
The Karen National Union’s Dupalaya District announced the artillery attack damaged a primary school, four houses, and local gardens. In addition, religious buildings, homes, and public parks were destroyed as a result of the use of heavy weaponry on residential areas.
