On June 5, a local man was injured after stepping on a landmine near Baykalwe village, Lamaing town, Ye Township, Mon State.
At around 10:45 a.m. on June 6th, 24-year-old Min Chan Mon and his wife from Ta Maw Kanin village were walking to their farm when he stepped on a landmine placed in a yard near Bridge Creek.
Min Chan Mon suffered injuries to both legs, but his wife was not injured.Â
“The place where the mine exploded is not their farm. As they were passing by the other side of their yard, the husband stepped on it. The woman was not harmed,” said a resident.
The Social Assistance Association was able to swiftly transport Min Chan Mon to the Lamaing Hospital. Subsequently, both husband and wife were transferred to Mawlamyine Public Hospital for further medical attention.
According to local residents, the road near the bridge creek is where landmines are frequently detonated. The route is a shortcut for many local residents.
In January and February of this year, two separate incidents involving landmines occurred in the community, injuring 2 local residents.Â
