Additional arrests of individuals who identify as Rohingya, were made in Winsein and Khalaukcha villages, which is located in the Htinshu village tract of Thanphyuzayat township in Mon state.
Last March 24, 145 Rohingya community members were arrested at a rubber plantation near Winsein Village. Following that incident, yet more arrests were made.
On the evening of March 25, a total of 31 Rohingyas, consisting of 28 males and 3 females, were arrested near Winsein village. The following day, 14 more Rohingya community members, 9 males and 5 females, were arrested in Khalaukcha village.
“During the last 3 days, 130 male and 69 female Rohingya were arrested, making a total of 199,” said a source close to the security police.
It is believed the individuals are undocumented persons, who arrived in Thanphyuzayat with the assistance of a labour broker. The intent was to travel on to Malaysia through Thailand.
Those arrested are currently being held in the sports hall of the Thanphyuzayat football stadium, and are undergoing examination by the authorities.
In January, 6 Rohingyas were arrested at the Mayanchaung checkpoint in Kyaikhto Township, and in February, 40 Rohingyas, including children, were arrested in the Nypa fruit forest which is located between Weakali Village and Kamaroke Village in Mudon Township.
Throughout 2022, authorities have arrested more than 230 Rohingya individuals in various townships of Mon State, including Thanphyuzayat, Ye, Mudon, and Mawlamyine.
