Since the onset of the  military coup, 335 civilians killed in Tanintharyi Region

Since  the military coup began on February 1, 2020, 335 civilians have been killed in the Tanintharyi Region.  Fifteen percent of these deaths were women, seventy seven percent were men, and seven percent could not be identified by gender, according to the Southern Monitor.

The Southern Monitor also reported that the number of civilian deaths in the townships of Dawei, Long Lon, Ye Pyu, and Thare Chong is significantly higher than other townships.

Civilian deaths perpetrated by the military council include the shooting and suppression of peaceful protesters, the arrest and killing of local residents by military council troops conducting patrols, and the use of heavy weapons.  These deaths also include the killing of motorcyclists and ordinary citizens for broadly defined security reasons.

In addition to civilian deaths, the tally includes those who were unarmed Pyu Saw Hội, military informers, governors, and political party members.  The Southern Monitor reports it is difficult to verify the personal backgrounds or political affiliations of all victims. 

Other armed groups operating under the authority and sanction of the military council  

Have also killed PDF activists, their family members and NLD members.

The PDF has also killed  governors and staff including Pyu Saw Htee, Twae Tout, military informers, and in some cases there have been unintended civilian fatalities and injuries as a result of PDF attacks on military troops and their security forces.
