Ambulance Teams Stop Transporting Patients at Night due to Security Concerns

-

Due to the security situation in Mon State, ambulance teams have stopped transporting patients at night, according to those operating the service.

On June 9, an ambulance operated by the Funeral Aid Association was shot dead, and another was injured in Sittwe.

After the incident, all night ambulance teams stopped transporting outpatients after 5 pm, according to an official from the Mawlamyine Township Social Relief Association.

A rescue official from Mawlamyine Township said that out-of-area ambulance service had also been suspended, making it difficult for those needing outpatient (Yangon) care.

“Service for those who need to be sent far away has been stopped. Now, ‌all Yangon routes stop after 5 pm,” he said.

He added that rescue operations and ambulances were suspended after midnight in the township.

“It was difficult for patients who needed to be transported to the highway, but for us, it was tough to get to the highway at night,” he said.

Ambulance services continue to operate during the day but night transportation  of outpatients has been suspended.
