Dr. Aye Zan Retried in court

On January 26, Former Mon State Prime Minister Dr. Aye Zan, who is currently serving a two-year prison term for inciting civil servants to join a December 2021 protest, was retried for two counts of alleged improper electoral influence.

Dr. Aye Zan was arraigned in Mawlamyine Township Court under Section 171 (f) of the Penal Code.

Hein Lin Htet, Secretary of the Mon State Election Commission, and Khin Maung Lwin, Assistant Director, testified at the trial.

In addition, Htin Kyaw, Secretary of the Moulmein District Election Commission, has filed a lawsuit against Dr Aye Zan claiming he participated in  election fraud.

The former Prime Minister is facing a total of 12 charges, — three counts of alleged improper electoral influence and nine counts of corruption.
