Dr. Aye Zan Tried in Court

Former Mon State Prime Minister Dr Aye Zan was arraigned in a special court at Kyaikmaraw Central Prison on January 19. He has been tried with two counts of alleged improper electoral influence under Section 171 (f) of the Penal Code and nine counts of alleged corruption.

Hein Linn Htet, Secretary of the Mon State Election Commission, testified at the hearing, according to sources close to the court.

During the hearing, the prosecution called upon two witnesses.

Dr Aye Zan was also sentenced to two years in prison under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code for inciting civil servants to join the protest, in December 2021.
