A group of 5 locals were traveling on 3 motorbikes from Kawdut Village to Lamaing Town around 10 PM on Monday.  Roughly halfway to Lamaing Town, an unknown gunman fired at them 8 times from a very dark location.   Nai Mon Dan and Nai Kyainbut were riding together at the rear and each was shot , according to the victims’ friend.

“Only the last motorbike was shot at. There was the sound of 8 shots. Two persons on the last motorbike suffered from two gun shots each. The unknown gunmen stole the motorbike ridden by two injured persons,” said Nai Mon Dan’s friend.

The two injured persons were assisting the New Mon State Party’s drug elimination project and were involved in arresting drug dealers, according to a source from Lamaing Town.

“They have helped in eliminating the drug issue through the NMSP’s project. They also helped arrest the young people who are using drugs and causing violence,” said the source from Lamaing Town.
