Ethnic parties from five states assemble and hold talks

-

Ethnic political parties from five states such as Kachin, Kayah, Karen, Chin, and Mon assembled to have a 3-day discussion from September 3-5, 2019.

The meeting took place at Summit Parkview hotel in Yangon and was attended by representatives from Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP), Karenni State Democratic Party (KSDP), The Karen National Democratic Party (KNDP), the Chin National League for Democracy (CNLD) and Mon Unity Party (MUP).

“The main point of the discussion included topics such as the land, natural resources, and environmental policy. The central financial policy was also discussed. We [all five parties] have gained agreement on the discussions and will present it at the upcoming political discussion,” Nai Layae Tama, the MUP’s joint secretary-1, told Mon News Agency.

He was so pleased because chairpersons from all five parties could present at the talks, added Nai Layae Tama.

According to the KSPP’s vice-chair Duwa Gumgrawng Awng Kham, “We agree that we need to include more details when we draft policy for the land, natural resources, and the environment.”

Also, the assembly of five states would continue to occur for further discussions, and they decided to cooperate with other ethnic parties in order to establish the future Federal Union, he added.

However, Rakhine and Shan ethnic parties remain unwilling to join.

The integration of ethnic political parties from five states held its first meeting at Chin Center, Yangon on January 10th, 2019.
