Gov’t, Hluttaw, Tatmadaw reach common ground for upcoming peace conference

The Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) secretary Lt-Gen Khin Zaw Oo (retd) said the government, the hluttaw, and the Tatmadaw have reached common ground during the preparatory meeting for the third session of the Union Peace Conference, also known as the 21st Century Panglong Conference.

“The position of the government, hluttaw, and the Tatmadaw agencies have been obtained after they discussed in respective sectors based on the points that were previously collected from the dialogues, points obtained from the Mon national-level political dialogue and points that were submitted from the CSO Forum,” he said.

The preparatory meeting for the third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference was held at the National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) in Naypyidaw on June 21 to review the outcomes from the discussions held by the government, hluttaw, and the Tatmadaw in respective sectors.

“Ten policy proposals have been received in the social sector. All ten polices are complete. [Proposals] have been submitted for political and economic sectors. I was told that one or two papers will also be submitted. The outcomes will contribute to the third session of the 21st Century Panglong,” said U Jimmy from the government’s group of people who deserve to attend the conference.

Secretaries of the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee U Khin Zaw Oo, U Hla Maung Shwe, U Zaw Htay, U Aung Soe, and Lt-Gen Tin Maung Win, joint committee members, representatives from the government, the Hluttaw, and Tatmadaw agencies, the government’s group of people who deserve to attend the conference, ethnic representatives, and advocates attended the meeting, according to the State Counsellor’s Office Facebook page.

The government spokesperson U Zaw Htay has earlier said the UPDJC secretary meeting will be held on June 25 and the date for the third session of the 21st Century Panglong Conference will be decided when the UPDJC meeting is held.
