Nai Ko Thu from the Organizing Committee said the public talk was scheduled for 9 am on July 17, but it has been postponed since the majority of the areas on Ye-Mawlamyine Highway have been flooded and Ye town and villages have been facing flood-affected victims’ issue.

“We will announce the date after [observing] the weather condition and negotiating with the speakers,” said Nai Ko Thu.

The New Mon State Party’s vice-chair Nai Hong Sar, the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) secretary group member Min Kyaw Zeyar Oo, political observer and writer U Htay Thein (a) Naung Kyaw, and U Ye Myo Hein from the Tagaung Institute of Political Studies were scheduled to lead the panel discussion in the peace public talk.

“We were trying to go to Ye to attend the talk, but there was a flood in Hni Pa Daw. Vehicles couldn’t drive [over the road]. We have been here since 6 am,” said Nai Aung from Mudon Township, who tried to attend the public talk.

The Mon State government announced that 3,505 households have been affected by flash floods across the Mon State on July 17 due to strong wind and constant rain.
