Monk arrested at Thai-Burma border for methamphetamine transport

Tala Chan : Yesterday, November 7th Thai Intelligence reported that at the Namghet checkpoint on the way from Three Pagoda Pass (TPP) to Sangkhlaburi, a man was arrested for the transport of 5,926 methamphetamine pills.

The man arrested was a 51-year-old monk by the name of Ashin Aetharthar (or Aung Thin in Burmese). On the morning of the 7th, at 8:30 a.m, this man arrived at the Namghet checkpoint by motorbike.

Soldiers checked him and found 5,926 methamphetamine tablets on his person. Ashin was then taken to the Sangklaburi police officer and investigated by a narcotics officer.

Ashin Aetharthar lives in Thaintheya Monastery at TPP on the Burmese side. He is currently being held at the Sangklaburi police station.
