According to announcements posted on the social media pages of Mon National Schools, enrollment for Mon National primary, middle, and high schools under the Mon National Education Committee (MNEC) will begin on May 25th.
The period of enrollment will be from May 25th to the 29th, and parents will be able to enrol their children free of charge at nearby Mon National Schools that offer a mother-tongue-based education system.
A teacher from Thanbyuzayat Township said that new and returning boarding students at Mon National-affiliated high schools and high school branches should prepare all required documents and supporting records in advance, as specified by the schools.

“Documents and guardian information are important for new boarding students, so it is more convenient if they come with a complete record, including transfer certificates,” she said.
She also added that school supplies donated by benefactors during the school reopening season would be distributed free of charge to students.
According to members of the Mon education community, nearly all Mon National Schools under the MNEC are expected to reopen in the 2026-2027 academic year.
A teacher from Ye Township said Mon National Schools are unlikely to see an increase in student enrollment this year due to the growing number of private and self- funded schools.
“KG classes are decreasing year by year, with many children going to private schools in urban areas. Some parents spend 10 to 20 million kyats to enrol them there. You can clearly see the decline just by looking at KG classes. If there are only 20 students in KG, how many will remain by the time they reach higher grades?” he said.
In addition, many middle school-aged students were reportedly withdrawn from school by their parents to work in Thailand, while economic hardships also led to high dropout rates during the previous academic year.
As a result, the teacher expressed concern that support for Mon’s national education could gradually decline and disappear.
According to inquiries made by IMNA, four new Mon National primary schools are planned to open under the MNEC in the upcoming academic year: two in Mudon Township, one in northern Ye Township, and one in Paung Township.
