Junta’s attack kills young man, injure two others, including a child

Tanintharyi Region, Palaw township, Letku village.  Local residents reported that mortar shells fired by the military junta killed a young man and injured two others, including a child.

On September 9, at around 9:30 am residents  reported that military junta troops, stationed on a warship near Kyaukkar village in Pala township, fired mortar shells at the village without cause.

The shells exploded near the Letku village high school, and in Pyinhtainkyi village. Two other shells exploded elsewhere.

Ko Myat Phyo Wai, a 23-year-old from Letku village, was killed in the incident. 

Also, 41-year-old Daw Khin Aye sustained injuries to  the abdomen and is in critical condition. Daw Khin Aye’s 8-year-old child was also injured by a mortar shell.

Last August, an elderly woman from Letku village was hit by mortar shells fired by the military junta, and three houses were damaged.
