More than 2,000 Residents flee fighting in Bilin

-

In Bilin Township, Mon State, fighting near Ahlulay village has led to residents from four villages to flee for their safety. More than 2,000 residents from Ahlulay, Alukyi, Alae and Ahnaukywalay villages had to flee to safety immediately.

A fierce battle between the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the People’s Defense Force (PDF) and the military junta began near Ahlulay village at around 8:00 am on September 4th.

“Ever since the military junta arrived in Ahlulay, we’ve been living in fear. As soon as the battle started, mortar shells began to rain down on us. Some fled to the villages further downhill in Bilin, while others sought refuge in the villages higher up,” said a resident of Ahlulay.

The fighting subsided around 4:00 p.m., but due to ongoing tensions residents expressed concerns that the military junta might launch an air attack.

Three members of the Joint Revolutionary Forces were killed during the fighting, and the military junta reportedly confiscated weapons and ammunition.

The Joint Revolutionary Forces announced that the military junta also suffered casualties.
