Ten Killed, Including Monks, in Road Crash Near Thaton

Ten people, including Buddhist monks, were killed in a road accident near Naung Bo village in Thaton Township, Mon State, on April 18, according to local residents and rescue teams.

The crash occurred at around 4:30 p.m. on the Yangon–Mawlamyine highway near a roadside shop, when a Hijet vehicle carrying monks, novice monks, and civilians collided with a Mandalar passenger bus.

Five monks, one novice monk, and three men died at the scene. Another monk later died at the hospital, bringing the total death toll to ten, a rescue worker said.

The Hijet vehicle, carrying pilgrims, had a total of 19 people on board, including monks, novice monks, and civilians. Among them, six monks, one novice monk, and three men were confirmed dead.

Nine people were injured in the crash, including six monks and three men. They were transported to Thaton General Hospital and Theinseik Station Hospital with the assistance of several social rescue groups, includingArr Kyar Nar Twin Let, Piti Hna Lone Thar, Hna Lone Thar Hla, Myitta Shin, and Thinkharra.

No injuries were reported among passengers on the Mandalar bus, according to rescue teams.
