Five soldiers from the Mon Liberation Army (MLA) were killed in clashes near Kyondoe in Kawkareik Township, Karen State, according to a statement released on May 3. The fighting was part of ongoing resistance against the military junta and efforts to establish a Federal Democratic Union.
The battles took place on April 15, 16, and 30, 2025, during intense engagements between junta forces and allied resistance troops, including the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), near Kyondoe town.
Among those killed was a platoon commander, Ko Tun Tun Win, along with four others: Aung Myo Oo, Nyain Thant, Myo Win Aung, and Thura Aung. Their funeral rites were held in a frontline area, according to the statement.
Clashes have been ongoing in the Kawkareik–Kyondoe region since mid-April, as resistance forces continue coordinated attacks against military junta positions.
