MSFC Opposes Political Parties Contesting in the Military Junta’s Planned Election

-

The Mon State Federal Council’s Anti-Sham Election Committee (MSFC) announced that it will oppose the political parties competing in the junta’s promised sham elections as they will be considered collaborators of the military junta.

On September 17, the Mon Federal Council established the Anti-Sham Election Committee to strongly oppose the sham elections proposed by the military council.

Mon Federal Council’s Anti-Sham Election Committee stated that the military junta’s planned election is merely a façade intended to cover up its inhumane military crimes. This move is a junta attempt to maintain power and gain a way out of the ongoing political crisis.

“As stated in the announcement, we have called for not collaborating with the military council. We have already made this clear. It is not a personal attack; we are targeting the work itself. We warn that we will take action accordingly if [the political parties] contest in [election]. We have already shown the public how we will respond. Therefore, we want to inform them before anyone gets hurt,” said Su Ta Jo, deputy chair of the Mon Federal Council’s Anti-Sham Election Committee.

The Mon State Federal Council has urged the public to oppose the junta’s promised election and not to provide junta away from the current crisis, ensuring that the junta’s violent actions will end with this generation.

The MSFC has strongly urged the international community not to provide any assistance, including technical or financial support, for the elections organized by the military council.

The military council seized power through violence from the elected government, accusing electoral fraud in the 2020 elections.

The military junta has been facing widespread public opposition and is losing on all fronts—military, political, and economic. In response, it is preparing to hold elections as a possible way out of the ongoing crisis.

The military junta has announced that it will conduct a voter registration process from October 1 to October 15, claiming to ensure the accuracy of the electoral rolls for the upcoming elections.
