A firefight broke out in the morning of August 29 between junta forces stationed in Kunyaik Village, Ye Township, Mon State, and the joint resistance forces of the KNU and KNLA. The clash resulted in casualties on the military junta’s side, according to local sources.
The fighting began around 6:30 AM on August 29 and continued until 9:00 AM. The junta forces reportedly used mortars, small arms, and additional reinforcements during the clash.
“It started at around 6:30 in the morning and ended around 9:00 AM. They fired mortars and small arms. Initially, the junta had about 40 soldiers, but later reinforcements of around 100 arrived, stationed in the area of Konpaw New Village,” siad a resident of Ye.
At least three junta soldiers were killed in the clash, and local residents sustained injuries, the source added.
The junta, with around 100 troops, is currently conducting searches in Kunyaik Village and has advanced into Konpaw New Village.
On August 27, junta forces from the 106th Infantry Battalion based in Mokanin Village fired mortar shells toward Aung Thar Yar Village, even though no direct clashes occurred, according to local reports.
It has been reported that there have been at least six clashes along the Thanbyuzayat-Ye-Dawei road throughout August.
