In Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region, military junta troops have fled the Kyauk Lone Gyi Camp following the capture of the Aung Thar Wara base by resistance forces.
On June 14, the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) successfully seized the Aung Thar Wara Camp along the Tanintharyi River. This victory prompted the withdrawal of approximately 50 junta soldiers from the Kyauk Lone Gyi village.
“Aung Thar Wara Camp had been under siege for a long time. On the final day, we launched a full-scale assault and captured it. Around 30 soldiers fled from the camp. Subsequently, troops stationed along the riverbank, particularly those east of Pulaw, also retreated. Both camps were under the same battalion. There was some airstrike activity on the day of the capture, but things have quieted down now,” said a member of the People’s Defense Forces.
The troops at both Aung Thar Wara and Kyauk Lone Gyi camps belonged to Battalion 285, based in Pulaw.
The capture of Aung Thar Wara Camp was achieved through a coordinated attack by KNLA Brigade 4, KNDO Battalion 7, and PDF forces. During the operation, 17 junta soldiers were killed, and several weapons and ammunition were seized.
Aung Thar Wara Camp marks the 10th military junta base captured by resistance forces this year.
