Three Members of the Mon Peace Defense Force Fatally Shot Dead

On the morning of January 24, three members of the Mon Peace Defense Force were shot dead in Sonnantthar village, Ye Township, Mon State, according to local residents.

Three members of the Mon Peace Defense Force, including Nai Soe Thu, were shot near Sonnantthar village’s soccer field while driving to Sonnantthar village to go shopping at around 7:00 a.m.

All three members of the Mon Peace Defense Force in the car were reportedly killed by the shooting.

The three Mon Peace Defense Force personnel who were shot and killed were inspecting passing vehicles at the Khanthin Bridge Gate between Ahryutaung and Sonnantthar village, according to the local.

The Ye Blue group announced that the shooting was carried out by their group, and the leader of the Ye Blue group said that two AK guns, 40 mm each, were also seized.

The Mon Peace Defense Force was formed in 2008 by some defectors from the New Mon State Party and surrendered to the junta in 2010.

The Mon Peace Defense Force announced on October 10, 2022 that they will join forces with the military junta and act as a local militia on the 12th anniversary of their surrender.

The Mon Peace Defense Force, in cooperation with the military junta, opened a gate and conducted checks on the Ye-Thanpyuzayat highway, according to local residents.
