In KNU Dupla District, Refugee Count Hits 90 thousand, Aid Needed Urgently

-

The population of the KNU-Karen National Union, Dupalaya District, 6th Brigade area has increased to around 90 thousand people.  The large increase is from displaced persons who had to flee their homes due to ongoing fighting and human rights violations being committed by military junta forces.  The displaced population  are in need of emergency assistance, the KNU Center recently announced.

The fighting and human rights violations has intensified in the last few months, and the number of people fleeing has increased, reported  the KNU.

According to the data collected in November, there are around 90 thousand people fleeing in Dupla District, more than 30 thousand in Kawkareik township, more than 20 thousand in Kyondoe township, around 20 thousand in Kyarinseik Township and more than 20 thousand in Ye township of Mon State.

The KNU Dupalaya District is currently housing people in small temporary camps and villages with local villagers.

Although both local and foreign aid, including the support offered by the KNU for food and medical treatment is being supplied, it is not enough, due to the increasing number of refugees every day.

The Karen Human Rights Group (KHRG) issued a statement that the military junta’s ongoing human rights violations targeting civilians, and the ongoing armed conflicts is leading to a national  humanitarian crisis.
