Chair of Thaton Township-Based Social Assistance Group Arrested for social media comment

-

According to local residents, Daw Saw Su Su Htwe, the Chair of the Surviving Together Social Assistance Group based in Thaton Township, Mon State, was arrested by the military junta.

Daw Su Su Htwe was arrested on the morning of December 16th by military junta forces at her home in Tudhammawati new Town.

“Ma Su Htwe wrote a comment, “Let’s meet again soon” under the post of a PDF member, who used to do charity work together in her group. The military junta arrested her for encouraging the PDF,” the resident added.

The pro-military Telegram Channel reported that Daw Saw Su Su Htwe comment promoted terrorism and she was an important supporter of the People’s Defense Forces. A few hours later, the junta arrested her at her house.

“Daw Su Su Htwe’s comment was not monitored by any junta lobby, ” said a resident of Thaton.  The implication being that likely a military informer took a screenshot and posted that to a junta social media account

It is not known where Daw Su Su Htwe is currently being held, and family members have not been able to have contact with her.

On December 5th, the military junta also arrested a resident of Mawlamyine for allegedly sharing PDF news on a social networking site.
