Local residents reported that over 30 homes were destroyed by fire, and numerous items were lost during an extended conflict in Karen State’s Kyon Doe Township.
Over a two day period, (March 25th and 26th) Kyondoe township witnessed combat involving the State Administrative’s Military Council (SAMC) and the Karen Border Guard (BGF), who fought against the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defence Forces.
Heavy and small weapons were fired by both sides during the battle. The SAMC also employed air strikes, according to one resident.
“Around 33 homes were destroyed due to helicopter and artillery strikes, as well as fire damage. Many household items were lost to fires. Additionally, four cars and three motorcycles were set ablaze,” reported the resident.
During the fighting, 4 local civilians were killed and 3 injured. The battle resulted in the displacement of thousands of residents from Kyondoe and neighboring villages. While some have returned to their homes, many remain unable to do so.
The clashes continued in various locations including the Myawaddy trade zone, and in Thinganyinaung, Kawkareik, and Kyondoe-Myawaddy Asia Road.
