Mon Youth Day ceremony is scheduled to be held in the NMSP’s Control Area

-

This year, the 11th Mon Youth Day celebration is scheduled to be held in the area under the control of the New Mon State Party, according to the Mon Youth Forum (MYF).

Due to the current political situation, the event is scheduled to be held in the New Mon State Party control area, according to the official of MYF.

“Our plan this year is that if we look at the political situation, it must be held in a liberated area, in the NMSP control area, but we will meet with the adults responsible for NMSP and decide which area is convenient and we will do it where they allow,” said Min Soe Myint, spokesperson of MYF.

Mon Youth Day is celebrated on December 28 every year with the aim of promoting (for the simple sentence, using ‘to promote’ is okay) unity and patriotism among Mon youth.

Last year, the Mon Youth Day ceremony was held in the field with exhibitions, competition plans, and entertainment programs, but after the outbreak of Covid-19, the Mon Youth Day ceremony had to be held briefly.

In the event that was held last year, not only Mon youth from Mon State but also Mon regions such as Yangon, Bago, Mandalay, Karen, Tanintharyi, Mon youth expatriates, and tens of thousands of guests attended.

Named after the first meeting of Mon youth held in Mawlamyine on December 28, 1946, “Mon Youth Day” was decided by the third Mon Youth Seminar held in Welpaung Village, Ye Township, Mon State, in April 2012.

Therefore, the Mon Youth Day commemoration ceremony was held for the first time on December 28, 2012, in Taung Phok Village, an area controlled by the New Mon State Party, Mawlamyine District.
