The women’s rights have been openly violated in Mon State after the military coup, according to the women’s activists.
According to a women’s rights activist in the liberated area, after the military coup, women are subjected to domestic violence as well as threats and rights violations.
“Just because there is no conflict, it does not mean women are safe. There are more criminals, rapists, and robbers. If that happens, I don’t know which court the people have to go to. There is no one to take action,” she added.
This was said in commemoration of the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which falls on November 25.
The Women’s League (Myanmar) also announced that during the military coup, there were 111 cases of domestic violence, 14 cases of rape committed by civilians and 16 cases of rape committed by the military soldiers in their remark to the Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
In addition, the Women’s League (Myanmar) also announced that the main reason for the increase in violence against women in various ways is due to the male-dominated ideology and military dictatorship.
The organizations active in women’s issues are also holding 16-day campaign plans for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
