A clash broke out between the two sides when KNLA (Karen National Liberation Army) Joint Force attacked the police station in Taung Kalay Village, Hlakazai Village, Kyaikmayaw Township, Mon State yesterday morning. It left 2 people died and 8 injured after the SAC military jet fighters bombarded over the villages near the police station.
The police station, which is located on the Mudon-Krainnseikkyi road, is based with the Burmese Army troops from Light Infantry Battalion No.208 battalion and it was attacked by KNLA Joint Force.
“The KNLA and PDF stormed Taung Klay police station. The battle started at 4 o’clock this morning. All the villagers did not dare to go outside. They are hiding in the house. It is known that 3 villagers have been shot due to the fighting. The rescuers have not been able to go yet. I don’t know the details yet,” said a local.
Due to the fighting between the two sides, thousands of the local residents of Tayet Khone, Kyan Taw, Mee Twe Khome, Hlak Zai, Paw Law and other villages around Taung Kalay have been forced to flee to safety.
Accordingly, the relief workers, two villagers died and eight of villagers, including a small children got injuried. They were brought to Mawlamyine hospital.
A relief worker said, “as far as we knew a village from Taung Kalay and other one from another village died. And then one child and another 7 villagers got serious injuries and brought them to Mawlamyine public hospital. The fighting stopped in the afternoon”.
In addition to SAC’s airstrikes, the artillery regiments in Mudon town and Abis village, south of Mudon township, caused damage to houses and monasteries, as they fired with heavy weapons to the police stations and the villages in sorrounding area. The houses and a monastry was hit by bombs and bullets and they are destroyed.
“We can see the Mudon battalions firing heavy weapons one by one towards those villages. I think the damage will be quite a lot,” said a resident of Mudon.
In the current situation, there is a disruption in travel on Mudon-Kyainseikgyi, Chaung Hnit Kwa, Khale Th Khun Taing roads due to the fighting.
Last November 12, KNLA joint forces and the Red Dragon Column attacked the Chaung Hnit Kwa police station in Kyaikmayaw Township, Mon State, killing 3 policemen, capturing 4 alive, and seizing weapons.
