In Mon State, another outbreak of Covid-19 was reported in schools and some neighborhoods. On February 13, a man who had been infected with the virus was confirmed dead.
The victim was an elderly Muslim man from Kyaikmaraw Township, according to an official from the Social Relief Association.
“He was an elderly patient from Yan Gyi Aung 5 ward, where the virus was found in large numbers. He was a Muslim. His family was notified yesterday and the funeral was held in the traditional manner,” he said.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports on 13 February, 54 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Mon State.
Covid cases have been reported on a daily basis in Yan Gyi Aung Ward and at the High School in Kyaikmaraw Township. On February 3, eight patients were discharged from the hospital after being diagnosed and treated for Covid.
Nationwide, the number of confirmed cases of Covid has risen to more than 1,000 daily since February 9, and as of 8 pm on February 13, 1,473 new cases have been confirmed.
