Due to the increasing spread of COVID-19, schools across the country, including government, private and monastic schools, were instructed to close temporarily for two weeks starting on July 9 until the 23rd.
The COVID-19 Prevention and Control – Central Committee released on [Thursday] July 8 a statement saying, “The schools should be closed because education staff and children have been infected with COVID-19. While the schools are closed, the classrooms should be sprayed with MKK (chlorine) thoroughly”.
According to the Mon National Education Committee (MNEC), the Mon National Schools are closed starting on July 9 until the 25th..
“Since all schools throughout the country are instructed to be closed, we also have to close Mon National Schools. … I want to urge that when the schools reopen, everyone should go back to school,” said a school committee member from Thanbyuzayat Township’s Mon National School.
Since May, almost 2000 new cases and 52 deaths have been confirmed across Mon State.
The townships of Mawlamyine, Thaton and Thanbyuzayat have been instructed to issue Stay At Home orders, and most shops have been ordered to cease operations. Only shops that provide essential goods or services are allowed to open.
The latest wave of COVID-19 has brought the official death toll to 287, and as of July 8th, 4,132 new cases have been identified.
