Some members of the Mon Unity Party (MUP), who resigned from the party, are now collaborating to form a Mon Affairs Association.
The goal of the association is to unify Mon people and work for Mon affairs.
“We will unify the Mon people and work together as one. We will upgrade the Mon Literature and Culture Committee to the level of a central body. We will also work for Mon National Day Central,” said Nai Mon YarZar.
Nai Mon YarZar also said that the association would establish a center for artists of Mon Literature and Culture, teach the Mon language and culture, and support health and research work and other voluntary community activities (Parahitha works).
“In us (Mon people), there is a group that is affected by politics. But these people are the ones who used to work for the literature and culture matters, Mon National day events, and teaching. They are the ones working for the community. So, now, in order not to be separated, but a group, we have planned to form a Mon Affairs Association,” continued Nai Mon YarZar.
Establishing a Mon Affairs Association is a first step that will lead to a team of people who can lead sections/departments of the association.
Nai Mon Yarzar added “We invite everyone who can take the responsibility to join. The people who have retired from politics will take a leading part. We have plans to form levels within townships and villages.”
Earlier this year some central committee members of the MUP joined the State Administration Council (SAC), 60 members – including individuals in the central executive committee, central committee and township executive committees, resigned from the party. By March, a majority of members had left the party.
Disaffected members established the Mon National Network (MNN) and the Mon State Interim Coordination Committee (MSICC).
