The Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) convened a special meeting to discuss the current political situation in Myanmar. They announced their decision to abstain from political discussions with the Military Council.
The PPST includes representatives from the 10 ethnic armed groups who signed the National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
Comrade Than Khe told the online press conference , that, “Firstly, I want to say that we agreed to abstain from political discussions with the military council. There is no way to address the NCA in this situation. This means that involvement in the NCA formula and particularly political solutions are no longer possible to decide via political discussions — so we have decided to abstain from it.”
Meanwhile the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) continues to protest against the actions of the military since February 1.
The PPST is supportive of the CDM, and have added their voices to the demand for all detainees to be released with no exceptions, and are critical of violent responses committed by the military and police to peaceful public protesters.
The PPST added to their announcement that the way forward will require greater cooperation with international actors.
