One hundred thousand illegal drugs seized in Mawlamyine: 4 arrested

-

On December 31 at around midnight on New Year’s Eve,  roughly 100,000 tablets of narcotics were seized from two vehicles.

“We got the information and caught the Probox car. They were arrested at the Phoe La Pyae Petrol Station on a road outside the city. One hundred thousand illegal drugs were seized,”  said a narcotics officer with the Mawlamyine police force.

According to the police report,  a ProBox car was stopped In front of the Phoe La Pyae petrol station.  The driver,  Soe Linn Oo (Ka) Pyaung Lay,  and three others, Tin Myo Latt [ Pho Khoa], Saw Hla Myo Kyaw, and Kham Par [Shan] were moving the illegal drugs from their vehicle to another.  Offers from the No. 38 Narcotics Squad based in Mawlamyine intercepted the men and all three were arrested.

“This is good news. In the past, only people who used [drugs] were arrested. It is not convenient to arrest only those who use it. This is good news for us if we can catch these really big drug dealers. It is also a joy. Even if the drugs are not eradicated, I think there will be less of them.” Said U Myint Thein, Chair of the Human Rights Support Group (Mawlamyine).

The four men have been charged under Section 19 (a) / 21 of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law for possession of illegal drugs possession by the Mawlamyine City Police.

This arrest follows another drug case that took place on December 28th.  More than 100,000 tablets and three firearms were seized from seven people in two cars in front of the A Par Chan petrol station in Mein Kanim village, Mudon Township.
