Despite holding ID cards and household docs, thousands of Yechaung Pyar residents not listed on voter-list

-

Thousands of villagers, who are holding ID cards and household documents, from Yechaung Pyar area, eastern Ye Township, Mon State, are not listed on the voter-list.

The villagers from Panang Pon Village Tract, which is about 30 miles from Ye Township, were able to cast their ballots in their tract for the 2008 Constitution. But the villagers had to travel to KyaungYwa Village to vote in 2010 election, according the administrator of PaNang Pon Village.

“The voter list was in KyaungYwa Village Tract for the 2015 election. But not many people go vote. Only a few people went to vote there. But for this 2020 election, we did not see any names of our villagers on the voter-list in KyaungYwa Village. I informed the commission, but it did not yet include the names,” said Nai ThaByo, Panang Pon Village Administrator.

Since the villagers are not listed on the voter-list, they won’t be able to vote. Those villagers are from 10 villages, including YinYe, Kanee, and Palan, near PaNang Pon Village. Also, there are lots of people not having ID cards.

According to Mon State Election Sub-commission, Ye Township has over 203000 eligible voters, and it has planned to install about 130 polling stations across the Township.
