NMSP sees leadership changes at recent central committee conference

The 10th New Mon State Party (NMSP) central committee conference held on December 25th at the NMSP Ye Chaung Payar headquarters, saw a number of changes in the top leadership positions.

The current nine NMSP central executive top leaders were unable to attend the conference due to poor health issues. Others such as Lieutenant General Lyi Gong is retired, and expected to be transferred.

Nai Hongsa is expected to become the next chairman of the NMSP and Colonel Banya Mae San (Nai Kway) or Colonel Banya Chan Non (Nai Ba Khine) may become commander in chief.

Conference outcomes were dependent on the confidential votes of the delegates.

More than 80 representatives attended the conference, which was expected to last ten days, according to the NMSP.

Prominent Mon monks and top leaders from the Mon Unity Party (MUP) also attended the opening ceremonies.

Thirty-three central committee members and five reserve members were elected during the 9th NMSP central committee conference held on January 9th in 2016.
