Public Peace Talk to be held in Ye

-

A public peace talk will be held in the Mon State’s Ye Town, on Sunday (June 17) with an aim of raising public awareness on the entire peace process, encouraging public cooperation in the peace process, and revealing the public voice.

The New Mon State Party’s vice-chair Nai Hong Sar, the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) secretary member Min Kyaw Zeyar Oo (of Mon National Party), political observer and writer U Htay Thein (a) Naung Kyaw, and U Ye Myo Hein from the Tagaung Institute of Political Studies will lead the panel discussion and Min Aung Htoo will act as the moderator, according to the invitation card of the public peace talk.

“We have received permission. Invitation cards are being distributed. We want to invite everyone to join us. The talk will start at 9 am this Sunday at the Mon Dhammayone (community hall),” said Daw Win Tain Hlwar from Ye, who is leading the peace public talk.

Another organizer Nai Ko Thu said information relating to peace will be collected via survey forms and the collected information and public voice will be submitted to respective departments that are implementing the peace process.

Since peace is concerned with all members of the public, local organizations from the Mon State cooperated in organizing the public peace talk, he explained.

“There are plans to hold ‘Public Voice toward Peace’ talks in other states and regions besides the Mon State by working with local organizations. We are trying to carry this out with the aim to support the implementation of the peace processes via public voice,” said Nai Ko Thu.

A similar public talk was held in Yangon in June, 2017 and the Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC) member U Ko Ko Gyi (88 Generation Peace and Open Society), UPDJC secretary member Tar Hla Pe (Ta’ang – Palaung National Party), Min Kyaw Zeyar Oo (Mon National Party), and Daw Khin Ma Ma Myo (political observer) discussed ongoing peace processes during the public talk.
