Burmese authorities set up flags and made markings on limestone from bottom of Kyaik Kamore Kalay Pagoda all the way to Jone Jone Kyat waterfall at Taung Nyo mountain on areas they planned to confiscate.

“Authorities forced them [rubber plantation owners] to sign the agreement about the confiscation of their rubber land. This is why owners have reported their dissatisfaction and distress to the government in Nay Pyi Daw” explained the aunt of a rubber plantation owner of whom land was confiscated. Area confiscated amounts to 2,000 acres affecting 58 owners.

Land owners between Mudon and Kyaikmayaw Township reported that news has emerged that the government is planning land confiscation to build new residential housing, distribute electricity with hydro power, and to build a new tire industry.

Mudon residents have claimed that the land was confiscated by U Ohn Myint the newly elected chairman of the State Hluttaw [Parliament] who won the Mudon Township No.1 constituency.

The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) promised people during its campaign that it will work for development which is why there is a rush to find areas for development projects.

During the campaigning period, USDP promised peace and stability within the country and to develop Burma into a modern nation with water and electricity accessibility.

Residents said the authorities also plans to distribute electricity from Kangyi lake and between Kwan Hlar and Young Daung village.
