Military Junta Unable to Implement 100-Day Projects in Insecure Ye Township

-

The military junta has not yet begun implementing development projects under its 100-day plan in Ye Township, Mon State, due to ongoing security concerns, according to local residents.

The 100-day project includes agriculture, livestock breeding, transportation, and social development programs scheduled to be implemented from April 20 to July 31. Military junta departments have reportedly been conducting field inspections in Mon and Karen states as part of the project.

However, residents said field activities and public mobilization efforts have not yet started in Ye Township because of transportation difficulties and security risks.

A resident from Ye Township told IMNA, “We have not seen any activities related to the 100-day project yet. They have not spoken publicly about it either. Fighting happens frequently in this area, and one of their captains was recently killed. Travel is not secure, so they have not started implementing the project.”

On May 3 and 4, revolutionary forces reportedly carried out consecutive drone attacks against staff members from several military junta departments, including the immigration department, who had begun implementing some 100-day project activities in Kyaikmaraw Township. As a result, the operations were temporarily suspended.

Meanwhile, townships with stronger security conditions, including Kyaikto, Thaton, Paung, and Mudon, are continuing to implement social service and development projects in phases.

A resident from Paung Township said authorities in those townships are conducting livestock and agricultural training programs, issuing smart cards for residents, and helping farmers obtain agricultural loans.

“The immigration department is mainly active. In addition, all departments operating with government budgets have been instructed to complete their work within the 100-day period. This year, the agricultural bank said it will begin issuing 300,000 kyat loans to farmers on May 12. Last year, farmers only received 150,000 kyat per acre as monsoon paddy loans,” said the manager of the Paung Township Agricultural Development Bank.

The military junta’s 100-day project is intended to carry out visible development activities within a short period across states and regions, mainly focusing on agriculture, livestock breeding, social services, and infrastructure sectors.

However, implementation has not been possible in townships such as Ye and Kyaikmaraw, where armed clashes continue to occur frequently and military tensions remain high.

Local residents also criticized the junta’s development promises, saying that despite former military leader Min Aung Hlaing’s pledges to improve regional development, Mon State continues to experience longer electricity outages and rising fuel prices, showing that the projects are not genuinely addressing public hardships and needs.
