Mon Women’s Organisation Pushes for Gender Equality Policy in New Mon State Party- Controlled Areas

-

According to officials from the Central Mon Women’s Organisation (CMWO), the organisation is working to implement a gender equality policy in areas controlled by the New Mon State Party.

During the month of May, the Central Mon Women’s Organisation (CMWO) is holding meetings with partner organisations of the New Mon State Party to form committees and promote gender-based violence awareness in party-controlled areas.

The gender equality policy will be officially introduced to the public after the committee formation process is completed, a female official from (CMWO) said.

“We are planning to raise awareness about the policy among women, youth, men, village leaders, and officials under the New Mon State Party after the committee and implementation process are finalised,” she added.

The gender equality policy was first drafted in 2023 under the leadership of the Central Mon Women Organisation (CMWO) and was approved by the central executive committee of the New Mon State Party in December 2025.

The policy was drafted based on equal participation rights for both men and women, and it is expected to increase women’s participation across all sectors of the New Mon State Party.

After the official launch and introduction process is completed, the policy will be implemented across all three districts of the New Mon State Party: Thaton District, Mawlamyine District, and Dawei District.

The Central Mon Women Organisation (CMWO) has been working to promote women’s rights and increase women’s participation in leadership and decision- making roles in Mon areas.
