Singing competitions for young Mon performers will be held during the 79th Mon National Day celebrations in Paung and Thanbyuzayat townships in Myanmar’s Mon State, organisers said.

Veteran Mon singers will serve as judges, and the winner of the Thanbyuzayat contest will receive a cash prize and support to produce an original song, providing a pathway for young artists to enter the music industry.
“If they win at the community level, it opens many opportunities for them to stand on their own,” one Mon singer involved in organising the event said.
Registration and audition details have been released on social media, while competition rules for the Paung event are still being finalised.
The contests revive platforms for Mon youth singers that were halted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
